On December 2th, 2019 the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Health of Eritrea held an opening ceremony for “Bright Journey” Program. Ms. Amina, Minister of Health of Eritrea, and Mr. Wang Lipei, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Chinese Embassy, attended the ceremony and made speeches. The “Bright Journey” Program is sponsored by the Commission of Health of China, aimed at helping patients with eye diseases especially cataract to recover light, through sending Chinese experts to recipient countries and carrying out surgeries and other treatment for patients.
On November 13, 2019 the National Health Commission of China and the Ministry of Health of Eritrea signed an agreement on carrying out “Bright Journey” Program in Eritrea in 2019. To implement this agreement, the Chinese government dispatches a 21-day medical team consisted of 7 experts from Henan Province to Eritrea. The task of them is to provide free operative treatment to around 300 patients with cataract, treat patients with other eye diseases, conduct academic exchanges with Eritrean medical personnel, further strengthen bilateral cooperation in health and share experience between the two countries.
Minister Amina extended thanks to the Chinese government and the Chinese experts, and indicated that the “Bright Journey” Program is another mark of bilateral cooperation in health between Eritrea and China. Counsellor Wang Lipei said that the Chinese government will continue to support the Eritrean people in health and conduct the “Bright Journey” Program in the year to come.
The “Bright Journey” Program will last until January 7th, 2020.
